gpt-6-astra cooperates without ever talking
gpt-6-astra achieves perfect cooperation with or without the opportunity to discuss, as opposed to the originally tested models.
In the original GovSim paper, Piatti et al. found that if agents were not given a chance to discuss, they tended to overuse the common resource by 22%.
gpt-6-astra is unaffected by the removal of discussion. All 15 of its no-discussion runs reach month twelve, and all 900 of its harvest requests are exactly 10, the same as with discussion. Its reasoning does mention the other agents, but it never changes its request because of them.
Completed full-scenario runs (max_rounds 0) in the published govsim index for <scenario>_baseline_concurrent and <scenario>_perturbation_no_language. Per model and treatment, the figure shows the share of 15 runs still alive at each month (alive through month m when survival_months exceeds m, or equals 12). Request counts and the reasoning quotes come from the govsim.harvest events of the no-discussion runs. A lone defector is a collapse month in which one agent asked for more than the sustainable share of 10 and the other four did not.
